In Your Eyes" depicts seeing one's beautiful soul through the lens of the eye.

Multi-talented musician Derwin Daniels grew up in Beaumont, Texas in a rhythmic environment. His dad, Lawrence Daniels, a former Navy and jazz musician, was a heavy influence on his early music years. Derwin started playing himself after receiving a glued-together B-flat clarinet at the age of 6. He later joined the middle school band, where he learned to read music. Part of a musical family, Derwin, his dad and brothers were known for playing Christmas Cantatas and other church events in their city. In high school, Derwin continued playing clarinet, before switching to drums. He was able to parlay his drumming skills into performing with local bands.

While on drums, as a teen, he toured with R&B legend and world-renowned vocalist and guitarist Barbara Lynn, known for the hit, “You’ll Lose a Good Thing.” Lynn also is from Beaumont. He also performed and recorded with Zebra Records jazz artist and guitarist, Zachary Breaux.

After losing his dad to cancer in 1988, Derwin’s mother gave him his father’s tenor saxophone. He studied the instrument for several months and then began performing professionally throughout Texas, including multiple venues in Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Daniels released his solo debut CD “Full Circle,” which includes the satellite radio and Latin-infused hit “Sambaya.”

In 2007, Derwin met the legendary Leroy “Sugarfoot” Bonner from the “Ohio Players” through a mutual friend who invited him to audition as the group’s saxophonist. Derwin toured internationally with “Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players,” performing crowd favorites such as “Skin Tight,” “Sweet Sticky Thing,” “Roller Coaster” and “Fire.”  His other recordings include a Christmas CD, “Holiday House,” and “Journey,” which Daniels collaborated in part with Atlanta Trap music producer Zaytoven (Drake, Usher, Travis Scott and Gucci Mane). “In Your Eyes” is Derwin's latest CD.

Derwin has performed worldwide at Billboard Live in Osaka and Tokyo Japan, Accra and Cape Coast in Ghana, Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts. He is the author of “Jazz Prep Playbook,” a primer for musicians wanting to improve their improvisation skills.
